Many Goan taxi owners have now started hiring outsiders to drive their fleet of taxis. This was revealed following a drive carried out by the transport department against taxi drivers plying without a valid badge in the city and coastal areas of the state.

The fact that a taxi driver has a badge implies that he is a resident of the state and his antecedents have been verified by police. But unfortunately, the drivers hired by the taxi owners are mainly from the neighbouring states and not authorised to drive a public transport vehicle without the badge.
