Meet a fairy in the magic tree, encounter magicians in the sculpture garden while eating cotton candy, or sip gin in the Strange Bar as LaLaLand Festival is back! An annual festival of magic and happiness held in Goa since 2018, this time around the festival will be held on April 16, 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. at the sculpture garden at Museum
of Goa, Pilerne. Cultural exchange is at the heart of the festival which will see international artistes collaborating with Indian artistes in the LaLaLab, Goan acts like Flamingo Theatre, alongside a folk rock experimental band Gowwli from Kerala.
The LaLaLab is a cross-cultural and multi-disciplinary collaborative production in which the ancient martial arts form Kalarippayattu meets contemporary circus in this rhythmic East meets West performance for all ages. The collaborating artistes include TeaTime Company(NL) which create performances where the borders of circus and dance disappear to create a new and hybrid movement language, Sjahin During an experienced percussionist from the Netherlands with Turkish roots, Kishor KC, a trained kalaripayattu artiste, and Sunaad Anoor,a master in the Kanjira, the south Indian hand drum.
At the Magic Tree meanwhile, one can look forward to performances by women like contemporary dancer and performer Dhanisa Shende, who has previously worked with the Terence Lewis Contemporary Dance Company and was assistant choreographer for the Disney musical 'Beauty & the Beast'.
Another artiste in action will be singer-songwriter Manuka.
One can also catch the VR Fair Ground installation, a collaboration between The Dutch media arts collective Dropstuffmedia.nl, artiste Subodh Kerkar, and the Samarpan Foundation which will take one on a ride through the canals of Amsterdam and Venice.
The festival is serious in their sustainability efforts and raises awareness on various topics through schemes like 'Trash4Cash', whereby people can purchase a ticket in exchange for recycable trash.
