'Young scientists, students to undertake research that is useful for the society," said former chief scientist and scientist-in-charge, National Institute of Oceanography, Regional Centre, Mumbai, Anil K Chaubey. He was speaking at the inaugural session of Science Expo 2019 at Dnyanprassarak Mandal's College and Research Centre, Assagao.
He further spoke about basic and applied science and how science should reach from the laboratory to the field.
The two-day event was oragnised in association with the department of science and technology.
Speaking at the inaugural function principal, D B Arolkar said that the objective of the exhibition was to expose students to recent discoveries in science and provide an opportunity to explore new avenues by stimulating their curiosity and inquisitive instinct.
The departments of chemistry, physics, electronics, computer science, mathematics and computer applications exhibited projects, etc, while the library had on display books related to science. The expo was visited by students of high schools and higher secondary schools from across the state. They viewed demonstrations of experiments, project presentations, poster presentations, screening of short films etc.
Addressing the gathering Chaubey shared his belief about science and technology being the backbone of any country. During his lecture on Ocean Science-Deep Sea exploration, Chaubey demonstrated how scientists undertook research of the Indian Ocean from the National Institute of Oceanography. He concluded by stating that one should consider choosing a career in ocean science as we live on a planet made up of two-thirds of water and the scope is vast.
SSPES's Goa Multi-Faculty College, Dharbandora organised a workshop on 'Communication and Soft Skills' for the TYBCA and TYBCOM students. Resource person for the workshop was founder and director of Body Speaks Better, Margao, Kanan Tandi.
Through various demonstration exercises, Tandi trained students on appropriate corporate dining etiquettes and correct use of cutlery. She also provided tips on how to excel at interviews and how to answer common interview questions. Later, she focused on how non-verbal skills can impact professional growth.
Participants were presented certificates.
