Independence Day was celebrated at Goa Multi-Faculty College and Government High School, Dharbandora, in the presence of principal of Goa Multi-Faculty College, Dharbandora, Shaikh Mohammad Parvez Al-Usmani and headmistress of Government High School, Dharbandora, Namrata Gaonkar and other staff members. The function began with the hoisting of the National flag and the singing of the National anthem, with social distancing protocols adhered to by the staff members.

Speaking on the occasion, the principal expressed his respect and gratitude to the freedom fighters and reminded everyone present about the importance of the day and their duty towards the nation. He further stressed on the need to remain optimistic in the current trying times. Speaking further, he encouraged teachers to develop alternative strategies and to adopt innovative pedagogy to teaching on digital platforms in the present context and urged them to strive hard to deliver to the best of their capabilities.

Parvez also briefly touched upon the problems that could be encountered by students due to various limitations as teaching moves to digital form. He emphasised on inclusiveness and equitable access to education in the current circumstances, as well and the need to accommodate each and every student as much as possible so that there is no digital divide amongst the students. He also briefly outlined th?e salient features of New Education Policy.

In her address, headmistress of the school touched upon the contributions of teachers in the present pandemic situation and appreciated the decisiveness exhibited by the government in dealing with the same. She further added that the country is capable of coming out strong from the present situation and can tackle any threat emanating from any quarter.

The programme was coordinated by the senior teacher of the school, Suresh Bhandari.
