VM Salgaocar Institute of International Hospitality Education (VMSIIHE), Raia was presented with a certificate of appreciation by sarpanch of Raia, Esmeralda Gomes and secretary of the village panchayat of Raia, Prabhakar Kamati, for all the support the institute has offered to the village of Raia as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

?Over the past several years, social initiatives like blood donation camps were conducted along with programmes to spread awareness on basic hygiene and sanitation. The institute donated 50 dustbins for both wet and dry wastes in order to promote segregation among villagers.

?As an aid to farmers, the manure from the bio-plant at the institute is distributed among the local farming community to be utilised in the fields at no cost. During the pandemic, VMSIIHE staff and students supported the community by purchasing fruits and vegetables from the local vendors.

?Football tournaments organised by locals also received support and encouragement from the institute.

Model, actor and activist, Mariette Valsan spoke to the students and staff of Carmel College for Women, Nuvem via Google Meet - on the sidelines of her shoot in Munnar.

The event was conceptualised by the department of English, Carmel College, Nuvem. Officiating principal, Aldina Braganza welcomed Valsan and referred to her as the voice of change that India needs. Valsan covered a wide range of topics which included image formation, perception of models, women and patriarchy, and colourism in the ad industry. The talk was followed by a question and answer session.

The meet that lasted for an hour was anchored by Brian Mendonca of the department of English and had 99 attendees.

Department of psychology, SPES's Goa Multi-Faculty College, Dharbandora organised a live webinar on coping with stress and emotions during COVID era.

Resource person for the webinar was founder of Soul Healing Counselling Centre and a mental health counsellor and psychotherapist, Aditi Tendulkar.

Webinar was interactive with inputs by Tendulkar on what is mental health, its significance, followed by tips and techniques to keep ourselves mentally healthy during the crisis. She stressed on various activities that can be taken up, especially during COVID times to stay mentally healthy and also outlined habits and actions that need to avoided. She also highlighted how we can capitalise on lockdown and restriction-driven life by engaging in hobbies and spending family time. There was a discussion on how to keep the mind and outlook happy and positive.

The webinar served as a platform to solve students' queries relating to mental health and stress management. It was attended by around 50 higher secondary and college students from across Goa.

Keeping in mind that a child is meant to learn, not to earn, Bandora Free Legal Aid Cell, Ponda in association with V M Salgaocar College of Law, Miramar held an online poster making competition on the topic of 'Prevention of Child Labour' for students of classes 5 to 10 on the occasion of Children's Day.

The cell functions for creating legal-social awareness among the people. The present in-charge and deputy in-charge of the cell are Pushkar Navti and Meghana Naik respectively.

Many schools participated in this competition. Students from different schools executed their thoughts and conveyed thoughtful message through their creativity.

First place was won by Ayush Naik of VD & SV Wagle High School Mangueshi, Ponda; second place was presented to Vishvam Naik of Shiksha Sadan School, Priol-Mardol and third place was awarded to Adhiraj Minrani of St Mary High School, Ponda.
