The state government, which has been struggling to deal with wet waste, may find a solution in the form of an Israeli patented
technology.
Introduced recently in the state, technology works on bags that can be installed in homes, schools as well as at housing complexes to treat kitchen wet waste organically, providing cooking gas and liquid fertiliser.
The promoter has presently installed HomeBiogas units in two educational institutions in the state and is hopeful of it being accepted widely.
Organic waste, including food scraps and animal manure, are placed into the flexible digester chamber through an inlet where the process of bio-digestion takes place with the help of bacteria present inside.
The bacteria turn the organic waste into biogas, which is collected, filtered and stored in the patented gas storage bag. This then connects to an especially designed biogas stovetop, which is supplied with the unit, through an inline purifying gas filter. The stovetop is controlled by hydraulic pressure release mechanism. The bio-fertiliser that is produced in the process of bio-digestion can be collected and used for
garden plants.
