The event witnessed participation of over 150 students from 10 schools including Dr. K. B. Hedgewar High School, Cujira; Fatima Convent High School, Margao; Loyola High School, Margao; Mushtifund High School, Cujira; Our Lady of the Rosary High School, Dona Paula; People's High School, Mala; Sharada Mandir School, Miramar; St. Britto High School, Mapusa; St. Mary's High School, Mapusa; and The Rosary High School Cujira.

After intense competition, Our Lady of the Rosary High School, Dona Paula, emerged as the overall winners, while Sharada Mandir School, Miramar, secured the runners-up position.

Headmaster of DBHS, Panaji Fr. Avin Carvalho says that 'Green Horizons' represented a collective initiative aimed at increasing awareness and driving concrete steps to safeguard our environment. He adds, "The various events sparked significant interest among participating schools, showcasing their ingenuity in uncovering fresh approaches to advocate for a greener and more sustainable world. I was deeply impressed by the students' performances and outstanding presentations, which demonstrated their commitment to environmental sustainability."

Head of digital operations and Green Horizons event convenor at DBHS, Panaji Asher Fernandes says that witnessing the culmination of months of meticulous planning and hard work was truly gratifying. "At Don Bosco High School, we firmly believe that the future of our planet lies in the hands of our young. By fostering environmental awareness, encouraging innovative thinking, and inspiring action, we strive to empower students to become change-makers and advocates for environmental sustainability."

The success of this event, he further says, could not have been achieved without the dedicated efforts of the team consisting of students as well as teachers. "Additionally, receiving feedback from the diverse schools that participated has been invaluable," he says, adding that through such events students gain exposure to real-world challenges and develop critical thinking, teamwork, and communication skills. "They learn to approach environmental issues with a solution-oriented mindset, fostering a spirit of resilience and determination to overcome obstacles. Also, students not only contribute to the sustainability movement but also embark on a personal journey of self-discovery and positive impact."

Don Bosco High School (DBHS), Panaji recently organised 'Green Horizons', a platform for young minds to come together, explore, and contribute towards creating a greener and more sustainable world. The inaugural edition of the inter-school environment festival was held at the Don Bosco Oratory in Panaji.

Architect Tallulah D'Silva, who has over 25 years of experience in sustainable design and construction, was the chief guest for the environmental festival that included a diverse range of eight competitive events. These included the MadAd challenge, where students crafted eco-friendly advertisements to promote responsible consumerism. The Greenscreenz competition harnessed the power of storytelling through video-making to advocate for environmental sustainability. Quizard tested participants' environmental knowledge and awareness through a battle of wits. Wordsmith provided a platform for aspiring writers to express their ideas on sustainability through the written word. Click-It focused on capturing the natural beauty of our planet through photography, emphasising the need for preservation. Turncoat challenged students to skillfully debate various environmental issues, showcasing their critical thinking abilities. Flamezero promoted sustainable culinary practices and responsible food preparation through a fireless cooking event. Lastly, Sharktank allowed young innovators to pitch eco-conscious business ideas to a panel of industry experts.
