CM: in 7 years, Goa will outshine south states in IT

The Chief Minister, who was speaking after inaugurating an IT Hub in the city, further said that the government would send the project report as regards Tuem Electronic City to the Centre by July 20, later this year, and is anticipating central government fund of Rs 50 crore for this project. He also said that the government will soon interact with the members of the Tuem village panchayat as well as the stakeholders, for satisfying their queries as regards the particular project.

Speaking further, the Chief Minister said that people still have reservations about the state Information Technology Policy as other states especially the South Indian states are leading the IT sector in the country. "Nevertheless, we are looking at issues faced by these states and would turn them into opportunities for us, so as to attract investment to Goa," he said.

Parsekar also stated that in the near future, his government would convene meetings with stakeholders from the IT sector and take up discussions to resolve issues like managing population influx,

Goa, under its current plan, has earmarked Rs 12 cr for its IT Investment Policy 2015-20, which will focus on Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO)

Key focus of the govt is on inviting IT-enabled service providers and start-ups, thus providing back-end operations like medical transcription, banking solutions, engineering services

In the primary phase, govt is planning to rope in at least ten IT companies and 5 ESDM units at Tuem, with a goal of employing around 15,000 professionals

Stating that the Goan information technology (IT) industry would require a seven-year period to outshine South Indian states known for their performance in the IT sector, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Monday said that Goa has not missed the 'IT bus,' and would soon turn issues faced by the southern states into opportunities to attract investments.
